Star Trek pushed the boundaries of casting people of color in major television programs, and even created its own language in the process. It has helped launch the careers of some of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces, and the franchise's recent foray into film yielded some excellent results at the box office.
Star Trek has run the gamut of television, film, books, and video games, and has been the subject of numerous reboots and continuations over the years. The last 5 decades have seen several generations of fans follow the series in its many incarnations. It may be hard to believe, but Star Trek made its television debut all the way back in 1966, and through the years, it has developed one of the strongest followings of any franchise in history.
